Distress for students who failed in more than two subjects; good news for those from previous batches

BanglaPress Desk: Students who have failed in more than two subjects will not be eligible to participate in the supplementary examinations. However, there is good news for those who failed in the previous two years; students who failed in 2024 and 2025 will also be able to take these exams, provided they meet the specified criteria. The education boards have made a preliminary decision to begin the HSC supplementary examinations on December 2, with plans to publish the results by December 31.
This information was shared on Tuesday afternoon (November 3) by Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and President of the Inter-Board Coordination Committee.
He stated that the date for the supplementary examinations was finalized on Tuesday. An official notification containing detailed information regarding the exams will be issued by the boards on Wednesday (November 4).
The Board Chairman reiterated that students who failed in more than two subjects are not eligible to participate. However, those who failed in 2024 or 2025 may participate, provided they are registered for or participating in the 2026 examinations. In other words, students who have failed for two or three consecutive years may take the supplementary exams, subject to meeting the prescribed conditions.
Meanwhile, a source indicated that the Inter-Board Coordination Committee has proposed that the process for filling out examination forms for the supplementary tests begin in the first week of November, potentially continuing until November 8. Additionally, there are plans to complete the preparation of question papers between November 1 and November 20.
Previously, during the announcement of the HSC and equivalent examination results on October 31, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon mentioned plans to organize supplementary examinations for students who failed in one or two subjects. He explained that this initiative is intended to prevent students from losing an entire academic year.
This year, 1,240,798 students participated in the HSC and equivalent examinations under the country’s 11 education boards. Of these, 646,685 students passed, while 594,113 students failed.
