Mohammad Akbarzadeh Killed in Road Mishap, Says IRGC Navy
Bangla Press Desk: IRGC Navy Spokesperson Mohammad Akbarzadeh has died following a reported vehicle rollover in Kerman province, according to Iranian state-affiliated media.
The IRGC-linked Fars News Agency reported that Akbarzadeh, the political deputy and spokesperson of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, was travelling on a road in southeastern Iran, on the route from Yazd to Kerman, when the vehicle carrying him overturned. He was rushed to a nearby medical centre by emergency responders but later succumbed to his injuries.
Iranian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of the crash.
The reports have been carried by several media outlets, including Iran International and RIA Novosti/Sputnik affiliates, while the incident has also been widely discussed by regional observers on social media.Akbarzadeh was a senior figure within the IRGC Navy and frequently commented on strategic issues involving the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's naval capabilities, and tensions with the United States and Israel.
Earlier in 2026, he was sanctioned by the European Union over alleged involvement in restrictions on maritime navigation.
His reported death comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, following recent reciprocal military strikes involving IRGC naval and coastal assets, drone operations, tanker-related incidents near the Strait of Hormuz, and retaliatory claims from both sides.
