NCP to unveil new Bangladesh manifesto on 3 August
Bangla Press Desk: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has announced that the party will unveil its “New Bangladesh Manifesto” on 3 August at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. Speaking at a street rally in Narsingdi on Wednesday afternoon, he urged citizens to join the event in large numbers, saying, “If you stand with us that day, we will make all our demands heard.” The rally marked the final stop of the NCP’s month-long “July March to Rebuild the Nation,” which began on 1 July at the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a student martyred in the anti-discrimination movement in Pirganj, Rangpur. Addressing the gathering, Nahid Islam stated, “In the past year, we’ve faced conspiracies, but we have not backed down. We have yet to receive a new constitution, the fascist president remains in power, and our declaration has not been recognised. We continue to take to the streets to demand a terrorism- and extortion-free Bangladesh.”
Highlighting the sacrifices made in Narsingdi during last year’s mass uprising, he said, “We haven’t forgotten 17 July, when all universities were shut down and we called for a complete shutdown. On 18 July, students Tahmid and Imon were martyred here in Narsingdi.” He paid tribute to 22 individuals from the district who were reportedly killed during the uprising. Nahid pledged to work for the development of Narsingdi as an industrial hub and to rid it of criminal elements. “Strengthen the hand of the NCP here, and our victory will come. As the July March succeeded across the nation, so too shall the NCP triumph in the next parliament.” He also addressed growing speculation surrounding two student advisers to the interim government, clarifying that they are not members of the NCP but rather representatives of the mass uprising. “We must resist the conspiracies against them,” he urged. NCP’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari criticised the functioning of the National Consensus Commission, saying, “Though the commission has been formed, it is being undermined from behind the scenes. There’s still time—listen to the people and stand with the martyrs.”
Earlier in the day, the NCP held discussions with families of local martyrs at the Narsingdi Club. The event was followed by a procession beginning at Jailkhana Mor, which made its way through the city to the rally venue. Police deployed over 900 personnel across key locations to ensure security. It is worth noting that on 16 July in Gopalganj, an NCP rally was attacked by members of the now-banned Awami League and its affiliates. Clashes with security forces left five dead and over 50 injured. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
