Pakistan’s Mideast Stability Efforts Win Appreciation in US Congress
Bangla Press Desk: US lawmakers on Monday acknowledged Pakistan's role in promoting stability in the Middle East and lauded the country’s economic potentials in a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Members of the House of Representatives Ryean Keith and Michael James called on Munir at General Headquarters, Rawalpindi.
"The visiting lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan's role in promoting regional stability and economic resilience. Both sides also explored opportunities to enhance bilateral trade, private-sector partnerships and broader economic engagement," said the statement.
“The ISPR said that during the meeting, discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and avenues for enhancing economic collaboration and prosperity," it said.
IT further added that Munir highlighted Pakistan's vast economic potential, emphasising that sustainable regional stability was deeply anchored in economic growth, trade expansion and connectivity.
"He underscored Pakistan’s ongoing structural reforms aimed at fostering a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment," it added.
The US delegation thanked military leadership for its hospitality and expressed a shared commitment to strengthening economic, commercial and institutional ties between the United States and Pakistan.
Pakistan and the US have maintained a long-standing relationship encompassing security, counterterrorism, trade, investment and regional stability. While bilateral ties have experienced periods of cooperation and strain over the decades, both countries have continued to engage through diplomatic, military and economic channels.
More recently, Islamabad and Washington have sought to strengthen ties following the US-Iran-Israel conflict, during which Pakistan supported diplomatic efforts that contributed to a ceasefire. Since then, US President Donald Trump has publicly acknowledged Pakistan's role and praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Munir for their efforts.
