Power struggle intensifies between Hegseth and Driscoll at the Pentagon
Hegseth and Driscoll at the Pentagon
Chhabed Sathee: A growing power struggle between Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has intensified within the Pentagon, with tensions becoming more visible following the recent dismissal of several senior Army officials by Hegseth.
Sources say the friction between the two leaders began to escalate after Driscoll was tasked with engaging in discussions related to the Ukraine war. Some officials claim Hegseth is concerned that Driscoll could outshine him, though the Pentagon has denied such allegations, stating that Hegseth maintains strong working relationships with all service branches.
However, internal sources suggest that Hegseth’s team believes Driscoll has taken positions within the Pentagon that run counter to both his leadership and the president’s policies.
Hegseth’s recent removal of multiple high-ranking military officials—including individuals close to Driscoll—has sparked significant concern within defense circles, particularly at a time when the United States faces heightened tensions with Iran.
Meanwhile, Driscoll is reportedly receiving positive evaluations from both political parties and is even being considered by some as a potential alternative leader.
Despite the internal conflict, the White House has stated that President Donald Trump maintains confidence in both leaders and that military readiness has been strengthened under their leadership.
