ACC Denies Singling Out NCP’s Asif Mahmud

Bangla Press Desk:  The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is not investigating National Citizen Party (NCP) Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain under pressure from any quarter or singling him out, ACC Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan said on Monday, insisting the commission's work follows due process.

"The ACC is not working by targeting anyone. Since these allegations were pending, we are bringing them forward based on the pending list," he told reporters, responding to questions on the ongoing probe in the ACC headquarters at Segunbagicha.

The ACC secretary said the commission does not investigate anyone under pressure from any side and works on the basis of specific allegations, without bias towards or against anyone.

“The ACC is a fully autonomous institution. The commission works independently. It will pursue investigations against all those who have pending allegations against them,” he said.

Asked whether any other former adviser of the interim government faces fresh allegations, Saidur said the allegations against those already accused are being scrutinised.

However, he did not specify whether any specific allegation currently exists against any particular former adviser.

On the commission's present activities, the secretary said many matters remained pending after the commission remained without leadership for more than five months, and that these are now being addressed in phases.

Asif Mahmud was appointed youth and sports adviser of the interim government in 2024, and later also took charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.

He resigned from the post on December 10, 2025, before joining the NCP, where he became the party's spokesperson.

The ACC has been investigating several corruption allegations against him from his time as adviser, though Asif Mahmud has denied all the allegations brought against him.
