Bangla Press Desk: While all banks across the country will remain closed during the upcoming five-day government holiday for Durga Puja, bank branches located at ports will remain open under special arrangements. Bangladesh Bank has taken this decision to ensure the continuity of import-export trade. Additionally, to adjust for the holidays, all banks in the country will remain open and conduct normal transactions on the upcoming Saturday, which is usually a weekly holiday.
Bangladesh Bank issued a circular regarding this matter on Sunday, providing instructions to the banks. The circular was simultaneously sent to the chief executives of all banks in the country.
According to the directive, government holidays for Durga Puja are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (October 20–22), followed by the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday (October 23–24). Consequently, most banks in the country will remain closed for five consecutive days. However, to maintain normal import-export operations, bank branches located at all land, sea, and airports—as well as in related areas—will remain open during this period. Banks have been instructed to take necessary measures and coordinate with the relevant administration, port authorities, and customs authorities to determine the operational schedules for these days.
This directive from Bangladesh Bank ensures that traders involved in import-export activities via ports can access essential banking services even during the holidays. Furthermore, since all banks across the country will remain open on Saturday, customers will be able to carry out normal banking transactions.
