Chinmony Returns to Jail After Attending Mother’s Funeral
Bangla Press Desk: Controversial Hindu nationalist leader Chinmoy Krishna Das returned to the Chattogram central jail around 8:03pm on Thursday night after attending the funeral rites of his mother.
His mother, Sandhya Rani Dhar, 71, died while undergoing treatment at a Hindu private health facility named Pundarik Dham in Mekhal union of Hathazari upazila, Chattogram on Thursday morning.
Afterwards, Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque granted a five-hour parole for Chinmoy in response to a family petition filed in this regard.
On 25 November 2024, Chinmoy was arrested from the capital on allegations he disrespected the country’s national flag and undermined sovereignty after a Hindu nationalist rally organized by the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagoron Manch a month earlier.
Later, a court in Chattogram denied his bail petition, causing his supported to go on a rampage on the court premises with sharp weapons, which left Advocate Saiful Islam Alif seriously injured and, ultimately dead.
In a murder case filed in this regard, Chinmoy was shown arrested. Multiple other cases were filed against him, keeping him consistently behind bars even after he managed to secure bails in some of these cases.
