Eight More Die of Dengue in 24 Hours

Bangla Press Desk:  Eight more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 157 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 1,733 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 53,570 in 2026.Among the fatalities, which included two men and six women, three each were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Chattogram division and one each in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Mymensingh division, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 191 patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 191 in Chattogram division, 388 in Dhaka division, 170 under DNCC, 143 under DSCC, 302 in Khulna division, 110 in Mymensingh division, 145 in Rajshahi division, 86 in Rangpur division, and seven in Sylhet division.

DGHS data shows that men account for 62.5% of infections so far this year, while women represent 37.5%.

According to official data, Bangladesh recorded 102,861 dengue cases and 413 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in 2025.

In 2024, the country reported 101,214 dengue infections and 575 deaths.

The previous year (2023) saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalisations.
