Lille sinks in 7-minute Arsenal storm
Bangla Press Desk: The first half lacked rhythm, and no goals were scored.
Consequently, pressure was mounting on Arsenal at their home ground, the Emirates. However, the picture changed after the break. A seven-minute blitz overwhelmed Lille.
Mikel Arteta’s men maintained their winning run in the Champions League by putting three goals past their opponents.
Arsenal fielded a lineup with five changes from their previous match. Yet, players like Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and Viktor Gyökeres failed to capitalize on their opportunities in the first half. Arteta, however, made no substitutions for the second half.
He kept faith in his players; Eze and Madueke repaid that trust before eventually being substituted.
The flurry of goals began in the 64th minute with a chip from Dutch defender Jurriën Timber. Receiving a pass from Madueke, he sent the ball into the net with a magnificent chip over Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
Three minutes later, Eze got his name on the scoresheet. The English forward scored with his first touch from a cross by substitute Bukayo Saka. Saka himself then found the net in the 71st minute.
In the previous Champions League season, Arsenal had won all eight of their league-phase matches but saw their dreams shattered by a defeat to PSG in the final. The Gunners have made a brilliant start this time as well; prior to yesterday's game, they had defeated Napoli 1–0.
