Salman, son among 25 accused in Tk604cr embezzlement case
Bangla Press Desk: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a case against former Beximco Group chairman Salman F Rahman, his son Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman and 23 others for allegedly embezzling Tk 6.04 billion through a non-existent, paper-based company.
ACC Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan disclosed the information to journalists on Sunday.
According to ACC sources, a non-existent company named Skymark International Limited was created, through which loans were sanctioned and increased without adequate collateral.
A total of Tk 5.38 billion was disbursed in the name of the company and withdrawn in cash without proper verification, the sources said.
Including interest and other charges, the financial loss suffered by IFIC Bank from the loans has reached Tk 6.04 billion, according to the ACC.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the loans were sanctioned in violation of the bank's relevant policies and Bangladesh Bank directives.
It further alleged that the funds were laundered through cash withdrawals, transfers, handovers and conversions to conceal their source and destination.
The case will be filed under Sections 409, 420 and 109 of the Penal Code, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Section 4(2) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
