Surprise inclusion in West Indies squad for Bangladesh tour
Bangla Press Desk: The West Indies are set to tour Bangladesh later this month for a two-Test bilateral series.
The Caribbean side has announced its squad ahead of the series.
Shai Hope, currently in excellent form, is missing from the 15-member squad; the team has opted to rest their limited-overs captain. Meanwhile, pacer Alzarri Joseph is unavailable due to an injury from which he has not yet recovered.
On the other hand, Kevin Wickham has been rewarded for his outstanding domestic cricket performance. The 23-year-old batter has received his maiden Test call-up after scoring centuries in three consecutive innings during the West Indies Championship—posting scores of 105, 153, and 108*.
He amassed a total of 393 runs for Barbados in the tournament, boasting an impressive average of 78.60.
All-rounder Keemo Paul has taken Joseph's place in the squad. Opener John Campbell has returned to the team after recovering from a hamstring injury; he had missed the home series against Pakistan.
The first Test between Bangladesh and the West Indies begins on October 28 in Dhaka, followed by the second Test on November 5 in Sylhet. This marks the final series of the current World Test Championship cycle for the Caribbean side, who currently sit eighth in the standings, while Bangladesh holds the fourth spot.
