Bangla Press Desk : The government of Australia has introduced a new international strategy aimed at advancing gender equality and strengthening the rights of women and girls worldwide.
The International Gender Equality Strategy highlights gender equality as a key foundation for peace, prosperity and stability. The policy also stresses that gender equality drives economic growth, strengthens social cohesion and improves the wellbeing of all members of society.
Australian authorities said the strategy reaffirms the country’s commitment to promoting gender equality and protecting the human rights of women and girls through its foreign policy.
Under the strategy, Australia plans to use multiple diplomatic and policy tools to advance gender equality. These include bilateral and regional partnerships, multilateral diplomacy, trade engagement, development programmes and humanitarian assistance.The strategy outlines five key priorities. These include efforts to end sexual and gender-based violence and to promote women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Australia also plans to strengthen gender-responsive peace and security initiatives and deliver climate action and humanitarian assistance that promote gender equality.
The policy further aims to support women’s economic empowerment through inclusive trade and promote locally led approaches that strengthen women’s leadership.
Australian officials said the initiative will support cooperation with international partners to promote gender equality across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
They said stronger partnerships will help build a safer and more prosperous region while advancing equal opportunities for women and girls.Source: daily Sun
