BCL stages 'silent human chain' at DU

Bangla Press Desk: Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the banned student wing of Awami League, staged 'a silent human chain' in front of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) building during the Eid vacation and placed a six-point set of demands.

The programme was held at around 8:00 am on Monday (June 1) in front of the DUCSU building on the DU campus.

Following the human chain, a written statement outlining the six demands was circulated.

In the statement, the banned organisation brought several allegations against Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, who served as the chief adviser of the interim government from August 2024 to February 2026, and demanded his execution.

The organisation alleged that Dr Muhammad Yunus while in office as the chief adviser had embezzled funds allocated for measles vaccination and that is why was responsible for the large number of child deaths from the viral disease.

Among the six demands raised by the organisation were the withdrawal of expulsion orders and cases filed against its leaders and activists across the country, the unconditional release of arrested activists, and an end to the practice of showing detainees "shown arrested" in new cases after their detention.

The statement also called for the identification and exemplary punishment of those involved in the murder of women and children, rape, child abuse in madrassas, and online harassment of women.

When contacted, Dhaka University Proctor Prof Md. Israfil Ratan said, "They did not arrive as an organised group. As a result, the programme could not be prevented immediately."

Our Chattogram correspondent reports: Activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student's wing of Awami League, brought out a flash procession at the GEC intersection in the port city of Chattogram on Monday morning.

Sources said leaders and activists of the MES College unit of the BCL brought out the procession all on a sudden. Later a video footage showing a group of around 50-60 BCL activists taking part is the procession was circulated on the social networking site Facebook.
