King Hilsa caught in a fisherman's net, price 9 thousand taka
Monpura (Bhola) Representative: A king hilsa was caught in a fishing net in Meghna, Monpura, Bhola. The fish weighed two kilograms and eight hundred grams. The fish was sold at an auction for 9,000 taka.
The fish was sold at Amanat Ullah Alamgir's fish shop at Ramnewaz fishing ghat in Monpura union of the upazila around 10:30 am on Saturday (June 20).
Nahid, the manager in charge of the shop, said that on Saturday morning, Kamal Majhi and his companions from Kalatalichar Abason Canal were fishing in the Meghna adjacent to Ramnewaz. At that time, the king hilsa fish was caught in their net. Fishermen and fish shop owners on the coast call large-sized hilsa king fish.
Ayub Patwari, a fish shop owner, said that the fish was auctioned in the box of Amanat Ullah Alamgir's fish shop in the presence of him and other traders. Later, the fish was purchased by fish trader Jobair Hasan Rajib Chowdhury for the highest price of 9,000 taka.
Rajib Chowdhury said that there is a high demand for large-sized hilsa in Dhaka's wholesale shops. He hopes to be able to sell the fish at a higher price in Dhaka's wholesale shops.
In this regard, Monpura Upazila Fisheries Officer Ujjwal Banik said that large-sized hilsa are being caught in the fishermen's nets as the hilsa breeding season is successful every year. He is optimistic that if the rainfall increases in the coming monsoon, even larger-sized hilsa will be caught.
