Yamal sets a new record, surpassing Mbappé

BanglaPress Desk: In the seventh minute of the match at the Camp Nou, Lamine Yamal capitalized on a grave defensive error by Aston Villa to put Barcelona ahead. With this goal, the young star etched his name into the history books of the UEFA Champions League.
During Tuesday night’s commanding 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, Yamal reached a significant career milestone. He now holds the record for the most goals scored by a teenager in the history of the UEFA Champions League, surpassing French superstar Kylian Mbappé. In 2017, while playing for the French club AS Monaco, Mbappé had set the previous record with 13 goals as a teenager.
The 19-year-old Spanish sensation, Lamine Yamal, has now tallied 14 goals in the Champions League (though it should be noted that Mbappé has scored 72 goals in the tournament overall).
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the speed at which he reached it—Yamal hit the 14-goal mark in just 37 Champions League appearances.
At such a young age, he has already added a series of incredible records to his name in Europe’s premier club competition. He previously became the youngest player ever to make his Champions League debut, appearing against Porto at just 16 years and 83 days old.
Furthermore, the Spanish star holds the record for being the youngest player to both score and provide an assist in a Champions League match. He is also the youngest player in the competition's history to score in a semi-final. Additionally, he has set unique age-based records, netting 5 goals before his 18th birthday and 11 goals before turning 19.
That said, the Barcelona winger has not managed to maintain absolute dominance across every single category in the record books. Earlier this year, Max Dowman broke the record for the youngest player to score in the Champions League knockout stages.
Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal—who finished third in the recently concluded Ballon d'Or race, just behind Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé—has begun the new season in excellent form. This wonderkid continues to showcase his incredible talent, having already recorded 13 goals and 11 assists in just 15 appearances across all competitions this season.
