Hamza, Shamit impress on return to club action
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh midfield duo Hamza Choudhury and Shamit Shome made notable returns to club football on Saturday after completing national duty in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers against Hong Kong, China.
At the King Power Stadium, Hamza Choudhury came off the bench in the 65th minute for Leicester City and produced a composed performance in a 1–1 Championship draw against Portsmouth.
Deployed as a right-back, Hamza made an immediate impact — creating one clear chance, providing a key pass, and completing all 16 of his attempted passes. He also registered two successful crosses, one interception, two clearances, and won an aerial duel.
Leicester initially took the lead through Aaron Ramsey’s first goal for the Foxes, but John Swift equalised for Portsmouth just before the hour mark. The draw extended Leicester’s unbeaten run to eight games; however, with five draws in their last six matches, they have slipped to fourth in the Championship table.
Meanwhile, in the Canadian Premier League, Shamit Shome featured prominently for Cavalry FC in a thrilling 2–2 draw against Vancouver FC. Shome started the match and played until the 74th minute, recording 16 accurate passes from 18 attempts (89%), 24 touches, one successful dribble, one interception, two recoveries, and one ground duel won.
The result secured Cavalry FC a third-place finish in the regular season, setting up a home quarterfinal playoff.
