Nathan Kelly steps down as Bangladesh fitness coach
Bangla Press Desk: Nathan Kelly, who was appointed for two years as the Bangladesh national team’s fitness coach, has stepped down with six months left on his contract.
Kelly told Daily Sun that his decision to leave the Bangladesh Cricket Board was driven by personal reasons, as he chose to stay in Australia with his wife and newborn child. With no immediate family support available there, he prioritized being home during this important period.
"I’ve stepped away from my role with the Bangladesh Cricket Board to remain in Australia with my wife and newborn. Without any immediate family support here, it was important for me to be home during this period," Kelly said.
The Australian trainer expressed gratitude for his time with the Bangladesh team and extended his best wishes to both the players and the board for the future.
"It’s been a great experience working with the players and staff, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. I wish the team and the BCB all the best for the future," he concluded.
Under Kelly’s guidance, Bangladesh’s cricketers were introduced to new fitness methods, including the much-talked-about “time trial” system. His innovative approach replaced traditional fitness assessments such as the Yo-Yo or Beep Test, sparking significant discussion within Bangladesh cricket circles.
Kelly, who joined the BCB in April last year, informed the board of his decision initially in person and later via email, citing family reasons.
