Ronaldo's Al-Nassr match in the Saudi League postponed.
Bangla Press Desk:Three Saudi Pro League matches have been postponed due to escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebel group from Yemen. Among the postponed fixtures is a crucial match involving Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, Al-Nassr.
A notice published on the Saudi Pro League website stated that these three matches, originally scheduled for the ninth week of the competition, will be held at a later date. League authorities explained that the decision was made to ensure mandatory rest periods for players between matches and to account for overall logistical considerations. According to the new schedule, the match between league leaders Al-Hilal and Al-Riyadh is set for December 19. Al-Ittihad and Al-Shabab are also scheduled to play on the same day. However, the highly anticipated clash between Al-Ahli and Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr has been rescheduled to March 6, 2027.
Meanwhile, the SPL has confirmed that the remaining matches of the ninth week will proceed according to the original schedule.
Earlier on Monday, the start of Al-Nassr’s AFC Champions League match against the Uzbek club Neftchi Fergana in Riyadh was delayed. The match began an hour past the scheduled time due to concerns regarding the security situation. The Saudi-led military coalition reported that a missile fired by the Houthis targeting the capital, Riyadh, had been intercepted and destroyed in mid-air.
In recent days, the conflict between the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen’s Houthis has intensified significantly. Missile attacks on various facilities have heightened concerns about the country's security, with reports of strikes targeting airports and energy infrastructure further complicating the situation. According to reports, the conflict escalated sharply following a deadly missile attack on Riyadh’s international airport earlier this week; the attack reportedly killed 13 people and brought airport operations to a complete halt. It has been described as one of the most severe attacks since 2015. Consequently, adjustments to the Saudi football schedule became necessary to address security and logistical concerns. As a result, the crucial match between two powerful teams like Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli has been postponed for the time being.
