Ishtiaque Sadeque elected in BCB polls with highest votes in Category 2

Bangla Press Desk: Ishtiaque Sadeque has been elected as one of the directors from Category 2 (Dhaka Clubs) in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election, securing 42 votes — the highest tally in the category. Shanian Taneem Naveen and Faruque Ahmed also received 42 votes, sharing the top position with Ishtiaque in what proved to be the most competitive section of the polls.

A total of 156 votes were eligible in the BCB Board election, of which 115 votes were cast, marking a voter turnout of 73.71 percent. The strong participation reflected high engagement from the electorate across all categories, including district representatives, Dhaka clubs, and the former players’ quota.

The results were announced on Monday (6 October), following voting held at a five-star hotel in Dhaka from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. According to the returning officer, Dr Sheikh Jubayed Hasan, 23 directors were elected from three categories as per the BCB constitution — 10 from district and division representatives, 12 from Dhaka clubs, and one from the former players’ category.

From the district and divisional quota (Category 1), the elected directors are: Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury and Asif Akbar from Chattogram Division; Abdur Razzak Raj and Zulfiqar Ali Khan from Khulna Division; Nazmul Abedeen Fahim and Aminul Islam Bulbul from Dhaka Division (15 votes each); Sakhawat Hossain from Barishal Division; Rahat Shams from Sylhet Division; Mokhlesur Rahman from Rajshahi Division; and Hasanuzzaman from Rangpur Division.

From the Dhaka clubs quota (Category 2), the elected directors are: Ishtiaque Sadeque (42), Shanian Taneem Naveen (42), Faruque Ahmed (42), Amjad Hossain (41), Mehrab Alam Chowdhury (41), Moksedul Kamal (41), Adnan Rahman Dipon (40), Faizur Rahman (40), Abul Bashar Shiplu (40), Manjurul Alam (39), Nazmul Islam (34), and Iftakhar Rahman Mithu (34).

“I am honoured to be elected as a BCB director. I have always wanted to serve cricket from an administrative point of view, and I hope to do it to the best of my ability,” said Shanian Taneem Naveen after his victory. Ishtiaque Sadeque and Mehrab Alam Chowdhury also expressed similar sentiments, acknowledging the support and trust of the voters.

From the former cricketers and government/autonomous bodies quota (Category 3), Khaled Mashud Pilot—who captained Bangladesh during the early years of its Test journey—was elected with 35 votes.

Under the National Sports Council (NSC) quota, M Isfak Ahsan and Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashiq were elected.

The newly elected 23-member BCB board will soon convene to choose the next president, who will lead the board for the next four years.
